Students should only attend school when they have a scheduled exam.  Students who are at school before or after their exam must go to the cafeteria or the library for quiet study.

 

Hants East Rural High School - General Exam Information

Exams must be written at the scheduled time.  Any students who miss an exam for medical/special circumstances must contact the office (Principal/Vice Principals) for approval

 

Information for Parents/Guardians and Students

  • Arrive on Time: Students are expected to arrive on time for exams. Students who arrive late will not be given extra time. 
  • Extra Time: Students may have up to 30 minutes of extra time for any school based exams. This does not include NS Exams.
  • Buses: Buses depart at 3:15 pm.
  • Exam Exemptions – Application forms are available in the main office.  Students who believe they may be eligible for an exam exemption must complete an application form.  A parent/guardian signature is required on the application form.  Completed applications are due in the main office by Friday, January 11th. No applications will be accepted after Friday, January 11th.  If you are not sure if you qualify, complete the application form.  Administration will check all applications to determine if the student meets the exam exemption criteria.  A list of students receiving an exam exemption (and the name of the course) will be posted in the cafeteria by the end of the day on Wednesday, January 16thFor a complete listing of exam exemption criteria, please visit the Regional Centre’s website:

  • Cafeteria – There will be no food service in the Cafeteria starting Monday January 28th.
  • Assessment & Evaluation – Friday February 1st is an Assessment and Evaluation Day – no school for students.
  • 2nd Semester – Begins Monday, February 4th unless there is a storm day during the exam schedule.
  • Storm Days – If school is cancelled during the exam period (including the assessment day), the exams that were to be written on the cancelled day will be written the next school day; each exam is moved ahead a day including the Assessment and Evaluation Day.  This will also cause the start date of second semester to move ahead.
  • Maker Space - The library’s Maker Space will be closed for the week of exams.

 

Information for Students During Exams:

  • Students may have up to 30 minutes of extra time for any school based exam. This does not include NS Exams.
  • Students are expected to arrive on time for exams. Students who arrive late will not be given extra time.
  • Buses will depart at 3:15 pm.
  • All books, binders, backpacks, etc. are to be placed at the front or back of the classroom.
  • Calculators are only permitted when indicated by the subject teacher. No other device can be used as a calculator.
  • No electronic devices can be used in the exam room. If students have an electronic device with them in the exam room, it must be turned off and placed with their books away from their desk. Anyone caught with an electronic device near their desk in the exam room will receive a ZERO for the exam.
  • Cheating on exams is considered a very serious violation of school policy. Any student who is found to be gaining information from any source, or who is involved in giving information to any other student during an exam will receive a ZERO for that exam.
  • Students who are at school before or after their exam must go to the cafeteria or library for quiet study. The Maker Space will be closed during the week of exams.
  • If school is cancelled during exams, the exams that were to be written on the cancelled day will be written the next school day; each exam is moved a day ahead.
