Nova Scotia Student Assistance

Nova Scotia Student Assistance - Guided Application (GAP) Session

HERH has been selected as one of four schools in the province to pilot a new program called Guided Application (GAP).  This program supports students as they apply for student loans for post-secondary studies.  On Monday, May 14th, Nova Scotia Student Assistance staff will be at HERH and students who want student loans for next fall are invited to apply on the spot.

In order for your child to participate in this opportunity, they are required to return the Declaration and Consent form attached herewith.  Without this information, required to apply for any provincial student loan, a student will not be able to take part in the on-site application event.  As this is confidential information, we would like to assure you that the information will not be made public in any way; it is being requested because it is required by the government to assess loan eligibility and is being used solely for that purpose.

As this is a pilot project, the GAP Program is trying to gather statistics to assess whether this new way of assisting students is effective and should be continued.  For that reason, they are also requesting that you complete the “Consent for Use of Personal Information for Program Evaluation” sheet also included here.  While completing and submitting this second form is optional for participants, please note that completing and submitting the “Declaration and Consent” form is not.

Finally, the “GAP Session- Participant Checklist” is being included to help you prepare for the session on May 14th.  Please use it as you gather the required materials for registration.  It will also help outline the details around the application process.

If your child is thinking about applying for student loans, I highly encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to register with the aid of the Nova Scotia Student Assistance staff.  To take part, please have them reserve a spot by signing up in Student Services by Thursday, May 10th.  All necessary forms should be brought with them to the session on Monday, May 14th.
